As some of you may know, I bought a couple of Betta fish last week. First off, Rhythm (my half-moon male) was sick with popeye, so he was returned the next day and exchanged for a crown-tail female. Since that particular day happened to be Friday the 13th, I jokingly called her "Curse". The name half-stuck (I changed the spelling to be short for "Kirsten").

This morning, she refused to eat, and only came to the surface for air. She was generally unresponsive. Upon googling these symptoms, I came to the conclusion that she was simply depressed due to constant water changes and the weekend at my grandparents. Off to school I went without a second thought.

I came home to Blues welcoming me and showing off his fins for a meal, while Kirse was still unresponsive, but had eaten what I had given her this morning.

Not two hours later, I heard thumps coming from the tank. Kirse was ramming into the walls. I immediately took Blues out, fearing a bacterial infection.

Sadly, before I could remove Kirse, she had sunk to the bottom and ceased breathing. She is dead.

Unfortunately, I cannot deal with this situation now, because I am on my way to Banff for a school trip. My brother has specific instructions to get a "heal-all" medication that the local shop sells, and the first container of aquarium salt he can find. Blues seems fine at the moment (a little agitated... possibly from the tiny container I was forced to move him too?), but I fear that he may get sick too.

Any advice on what to do next is appreciated. The information obtained will be forwarded to my brother at the first opportunity.

Did you happen to take any pictures of what she looked like when she was acting off? It could really be a number of things.
What is your tank setup? (size, filtered, heated, decorations)
